ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-3-540-30606-1 Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : ELECTROTECHNIQUE Index. décimale : 10-05 Electronique de puissance et industrielle Résumé : This monograph presents advanced modelling, analysis and control techniques of FACTS. These topics reflect the recent research and development of FACTS controllers, and anticipate the future applications of FACTS in power systems. The book covers comprehensively a range of power-system control problems: from steady-state voltage and power flow control, to voltage and reactive power control, to voltage stability control, to small signal stability control using FACTS controllers.
The book presents the modelling of the latest FACTS controllers for power flow control, compensation and power quality (IPFC, GUPF, VSC HVDC and M-VSCHVDC, etc.) in power system analysis. The selection is evaluated by the actual and likely future practical relevance of each. The material is derived mainly from the research and industrial development in which the authors have been heavily involved. The book is timely and of great value to power engineering engineers and students of modelling, simulations and control design of FACTS for a broad practical range of power system operation, planning and control problems.Note de contenu : Contents:

ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-387-97947-2 Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : GÉNIE BIOMÉDICAL Index. décimale : 35-07 Biomécanique Résumé : This book is accepted internationally as the standard treatment of the mechanical properties of biological fluids, solids, tissues, and organs. It is used as both a reference and textbook in this rapidly growing field. Biomechanics presents a general outline of the discipline, with applications to bioengineering, physiology, medicine, and surgery. The second edition reflects the broad advances that have been made in this field during the past decade and adds numerous new topics.
References have been brought up to date, and the widely praised emphasis on formulating and solving problems has been strengthened with numerous new examples. The book begins with a historical introduction to the field of biomechanics, followed by a chapter which relates the definitions, vocabulary, and methods of applied mechanics to biological tissues. These methods are then used to treat in detail the mechanical properties of blood, including those of blood cells and vessels.
The remaining chapters discuss the viscoelastic properties of biological fluids and solids, as well as the mechanics of muscle, bone, and connective tissue.Note de contenu : Contents

ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-3-211-99460-3 Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : AUTOMATISME Index. décimale : 25-01 Logique combinatoire et séquentielle Résumé : Multibody systems are used extensively in the investigation of mechanical systems including structural and non-structural applications. It can be argued that among all the areas in solid mechanics the methodologies and applications associated to multibody dynamics are those that provide an ideal framework to aggregate d- ferent disciplines. This idea is clearly reflected, e. g. , in the multidisciplinary applications in biomechanics that use multibody dynamics to describe the motion of the biological entities, in finite elements where multibody dynamics provides - werful tools to describe large motion and kinematic restrictions between system components, in system control where the methodologies used in multibody dynamics are the prime form of describing the systems under analysis, or even in many - plications that involve fluid-structure interaction or aero elasticity. The development of industrial products or the development of analysis tools, using multibody dynamics methodologies, requires that the final result of the devel- ments are the best possible within some limitations, i. e. , they must be optimal. Furthermore, the performance of the developed systems must either be relatively insensitive to some of their design parameters or be sensitive in a controlled manner to other variables. Therefore, the sensitivity analysis of such systems is fundamental to support the decision making process. This book presents a broad range of tools for designing mechanical systems ranging from the kinematic and dynamic analysis of rigid and flexible multibody systems to their advanced optimization. Complex systems present important challenges, in great part due to their sheer size which makes it difficult to grasp their dynamic behavior, optimize their operations, or study their reliability. Yet, we live in a world where, due to increasing inter-dependencies and networking of systems, complexity has become the norm. With this in mind, the volume comprises two parts. The first part is dedicated to a spectrum of complex problems of decision and control encountered in the area of production and inventory systems. The second part is dedicated to large scale or multi-agent system problems occurring in other areas of engineering such as telecommunication and electric power networks, as well as more generic context.
