Human genetic disease analysis (cop. 1993)
Titre : Human genetic disease analysis : a practical approach Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Kay E. Davies (19..), Éditeur scientifique Mention d'édition : 2nd edition Editeur : Oxford : IRL Press Année de publication : cop. 1993 Collection : Practical approach series, ISSN 0957-025X Oeuvres / Expressions : Human genetic diseases Importance : 1 vol. (xvi-124 p.) Présentation : ill. Format : 25 cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 0-19-963308-8 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 616/. Résumé : This book covers all of the commonly used methods for the analysis and diagnosis of human genetic diseases. The chapters describe the analysis of gene mutations as well as the functional organization of genes and chromosomal regions, keeping up-to-date with recent advances in the field. Revisions in this second edition include sections on PCR and FISH. When the first edition of this book was published, prenatal diagnosis based on DNA analysis was performed in two weeks. The advent of PCR has allowed this process to be completed in just a few hours. PCR has had an impact in almost all areas of molecular medicine and thus all the chapters in this new edition have been significantly revised. The development of fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) has been important for both genome analysis and diagnosis. This revolutionary new technology is detailed in this volume. The book will be valuable for scientists working in a pure research environment as well as those in service laboratories analyzing different human disease mutations. Titre : Protein function : A Practical Approach Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Thomas E. Creighton (1940-....), Éditeur scientifique Editeur : Oxford : IRL Press Année de publication : 1989 Collection : Practical approach series, ISSN 0957-025X Importance : 306 p. Format : 23 cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-85221-139-4 Langues : Anglais (eng) Tags : Proteins Index. décimale : 547.7 Résumé : The analysis of protein function is a vital step in the characterization of any newly discovered protein. This new edition brings up to date the techniques used, and presents experimental procedures that can be performed in the average laboratory without recourse to highly specialised
equipment. The protocols will be of use to both experienced and novice researchers and are accompanied by background information, hints and tips, and troubleshooting guides to ensure successful elucidation of protein function.Note de contenu : "This edition . . . has been updated from the original 1989 edition . . . [N]ew chapters have . . . been added to reflect recent improvements in the techniques of molecular biology. . . . The ten chapters roughly focus on five areas. One of the main topics is the chemical modification of proteins .
. . Another section considers techniques involved in the detection and quantification of ligand-receptor binding interactions. A third focuses on the purification and analysis of sequence-specific DNA binding proteins. . . . One of the new additions is a discussion of the techniques involved in the
overexpression of cloned genes in E. coli and of those used in protein refolding. These chapters are particularly useful, as they contain warnings of numerous pitfalls as well as valuable suggestions that would aid researchers new to these areas. A final addition is a chapter on the identification
of proteins by using two-dimensional electrophoresis."Protein function : A Practical Approach [texte imprimé] / Thomas E. Creighton (1940-....), Éditeur scientifique . - Oxford : IRL Press, 1989 . - 306 p. ; 23 cm. - (Practical approach series, ISSN 0957-025X) .
