The growing focus on sustainable development has presented significant challenges for the construction industry over the years, particularly concerning the consumption of natural resources and energy. This situation highlights the need for a more strategic approach to minimize environmental impacts. Concepts such as ecology, clean and healthy environments, sustainable construction, eco-construction, efficient materials, and renewable energy are not yet fully embraced in Algeria, even though they are widely accepted in many developed and emerging countries. Eco-materials, recognized for their environmental benefits, can be used in construction, housing, furniture, and interior design. These materials stem from eco-design principles, created with environmental responsibility in mind and made from recyclable materials. Their goal is to assess and reduce their environmental impact throughout their entire lifecycle. Eco-materials are crucial to ecological construction practices, including the use of the High Environmental Quality (HEQ) label as a standard for construction projects.

The 2nd National Seminar on Eco-Materials and Eco-Structure Design builds upon the first seminar held in 2021. This event aims to bring together academics and industry professionals to exchange knowledge and stay updated on the latest scientific and technological advancements in this field.

Energy efficiency involves using less energy to achieve the same results. This practice includes optimizing energy use across various sectors such as buildings, transportation, and industry, to reduce waste and consumption. Enhancing energy efficiency not only reduces energy costs but also significantly lowers environmental impacts, including greenhouse gas emissions. By adopting energy-efficient technologies, promoting sustainable practices, and raising awareness, we can contribute to a more sustainable uture, improve energy security, and combat climate change.
