As part of their end-of-year project, first-year architecture students (Groups 1 and 2) carried out an educational field trip to the Casbah of Algiers from April 4 to 6, 2026, accompanied by Ms. Meliani, Ms. Sidi Ykhlef, and assistant Hanene Hadj Daouadji.
This immersion in the heart of this emblematic site allowed them to observe and analyze the organizational principles of the Islamic medina, as well as the characteristics of its traditional architecture. This experience aims to enrich their reflection and inspire them in the reinterpretation of these principles within their architectural projects.
This field trip provided an in situ learning opportunity, enabling students to better understand the relationship between heritage, urban space, and architectural design, while highlighting the importance of our architectural heritage

As part of the Centre’s missions related to the development of pedagogical and educational training programs aimed at promoting earthen architecture, as well as the organization of cultural and scientific events at both national and international levels to strengthen and enhance the architectural cultural heritage built in earth and its traditional techniques, the Algerian Center for Earthen Built Cultural Heritage organized a practical training session entitled:
“Introduction to Earthen Construction Techniques”
This session was intended for architecture students from the University of Science and Technology Mohamed Boudiaf of Oran (USTO), particularly Master 1 and Master 2 students from the Department of Architecture, accompanied by several supervising professors.
The organization of this training followed an official request from the Department of Architecture of the University of Oran, within the framework of a scientific and educational partnership between the university and the center, aimed at enabling students to acquire practical knowledge and applied skills in the field of earthen construction.
The training took place at the center’s headquarters in the city of Timimoun, from February 7 to 10, 2026. It included an intensive scientific and practical program covering:
- Presentation of soil properties as a construction material,
- Traditional brick-making techniques,
- Compressed earth block techniques,
- Rammed earth construction,
- Construction of arches and architectural elements,
- Exploration of the creative potential of these methods in preserving local architectural heritage.
This session provided students with the opportunity for direct contact with traditional construction techniques, as well as discovering the reality of earthen architecture in the Timimoun region, thereby strengthening their academic training and linking theoretical knowledge with field practice.
This initiative also reflects the center’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with university institutions and actively contributing to the training of a new generation of architects specialized in the preservation and promotion of earthen built architectural heritage.
